XP tracks & progression: how leveling works

Updated Sep 11, 2026v1.0.1Verified2 min read

Progression runs on four parallel XP tracks: Profile, Killer, Civilian, and Weapon. Playing anything advances Profile; the other three level with what you actually did — hunting as Michael, surviving as a hero, and using specific weapons. Layered on top: challenges (Passive and Progressive) that pay out skins, abilities, and execution animations, and Perk Points that fund the civilian deck.

The four tracks

  • Profile — your account-wide level; the number people flex in launch-week screenshots.
  • Killer — Michael play. Reports tie ability and skin unlocks (Inmate, Clown, Scorched tiers) to this track and its challenges. Reported
  • Civilian — hero play; the track most relevant to perk economy.
  • Weapon — per-weapon usage. Exact per-weapon rewards are still being catalogued.

Challenges: the multiplier

Challenges come in two types — Passive (accumulate naturally: totals, distances, uses) and Progressive (staged objectives that advance in order). They're the progression multiplier: XP flows from playing, but the rewards that matter — skins, optional abilities, executions — sit behind challenge completion.

Two operational notes:

  • Prestige challenges are currently disabled (officially, since September 10) — don't grind toward one until the patch. See why.
  • Regular challenge tracking has a reported bug; before re-grinding a "lost" challenge, read challenges not counting.

Leveling efficiently

  1. Play objectives, not kills/survival time alone. Both sides' scoring rewards match contribution — evacuations and Special Targets for civilians, targeted hunting for Michael.

  2. Keep 2–3 active challenges in mind per session. Passive ones complete themselves; Progressive ones need you to actually play toward the current stage.

  3. Rotate weapons deliberately if Weapon-track rewards matter to you — organic play tends to overuse one favorite.

  4. Don't force the off-side. All four tracks move over time; misery-grinding Michael when you're a civilian main is slower than being good at your side.
