Reality Tear sharpened considerably in the v2 research: it's bound to E on PC and is used standing over a survivor — a finisher-flavored ability rather than area horror. And we now know its counters better than its numbers: it has two hard counters on the civilian side.

What's confirmed

  • The usage pattern: cast over a survivor, at melee range, from control. It appears in the kill-pressure part of Michael's toolkit, alongside grabs and executions.
  • The counters: the Ancient Amulet hard-counters it (deflecting the attempt, damaging and blinding Michael), and grab-escape knives are cited as the other hard counter. Reported
  • One source believes it cannot break a Michael pinned by the Fragile Hourglass out of that state. Unverified

What's still open

The precise effect — what the tear actually does to the survivor beneath it — hasn't been read off a tooltip in our sources; accounts describe the moment inconsistently. We publish the usage and counters as observed and leave the effect line pending.

Build thinking

As the pressure pick, it competes with Blackout's tempo and Detection Pulse's information. Take it if your play funnels into downed-and-cornered moments; skip it into lobbies visibly running amulets and pocket knives — countered finishers are wasted slots.

If you're a civilian

Carry the counters: an amulet if you find one (relic spots), a grab-escape knife always (slot one). And a teammate standing over your body isn't helpless — shoves interrupt more than grabs.
