Does it earn one of your three slots? Yes, always — the Ancient Amulet is the best defensive item in the game, and the v2 research upgraded it from "absorbs a hit" to something much better: the next hit or grab is deflected, and Michael takes damage and is blinded in the process. It's also a hard counter to Reality Tear. One use, then gone.
The trade-off: you glow
The amulet's cost is visibility: the holder glows orange — visible to Michael — and he can break the amulet with a hit or a thrown object before you ever spend it. Friendly fire breaks it too, so tell your trigger-happy teammates what the glow means. It's a shield that paints a target on the shield.
Who should hold it
The player doing the most dangerous walking: the escort through contested ground, or the carrier of the final escape-chain item. A deflected grab at the exit is a match-winning proc.
Spawning
Chance-based at semi-known relic spots — and multiple amulets can spawn in one match (the relics are, in one creator's words, not as rare as intended). Spot-checking routes are covered in rare item spawns.
