Controller vs keyboard on PC

An unusual PC-community consensus formed fast at launch: the game reportedly feels better on controller. That's a subjective claim we label accordingly — but it's consistent enough across reports to be worth a page, especially if mouse play feels "off" to you and you've been blaming performance.

Why controller reportedly wins

The recurring explanations in player reports: Reported

  • Animation-driven movement. Characters (Michael especially) move with weighty, animation-led locomotion that maps naturally to analog sticks; binary WASD inputs reportedly fight it.
  • Interaction and struggle moments — QTE-flavored sequences described as more comfortable on pads.
  • Camera pacing. The deliberate camera reads as tuned for stick turn rates rather than flick aim; there's no precision-aim payoff (this isn't a shooter) to reward the mouse.

None of this is an official statement about input handling — no developer post we've seen addresses input feel.

Should you switch?

  • Playing Michael: the reports are strongest here — stalking and melee commit-timing are stick-friendly. Try a controller session before judging his feel.
  • Playing civilians: more mixed; menu-heavy looting and quick camera checks keep keyboard viable. Unverified
  • Already comfortable on KB+M: input familiarity beats theoretical fit. Don't fix what isn't broken.

Testing it fairly

  1. Give the pad two full sessions, not ten minutes — input switches always feel worse before muscle memory arrives.

  2. Test on the same side both nights (both as Michael, or both as civilian) so you're comparing input, not role.

  3. Check deadzone/sensitivity settings before concluding anything; defaults may not fit your pad.
