Emote controls: how to emote on every platform
Updated Sep 11, 2026v1.0.1Unverified1 min read
Emotes are in the game — launch-week clips are full of them — but the exact default bindings per platform are not officially documented, and we won't guess buttons at you. Here's what's solid, what's reported, and how to find your own binding in under a minute.
What's confirmed
Emote/social expression features exist and are used freely in multiplayer; customization is part of the game's identity. Beyond that, specifics are thin.
Finding your binding (any platform)
Open Settings → Controls from the main menu or pause menu and look for an Emote / Social / Communication entry in the binding list.
Check the controller layout diagram if one exists — wheel-style emote menus in this genre typically sit on a d-pad direction (controller) or a single key opening a radial (PC).
Rebind it somewhere deliberate. An emote wheel on a misclick-prone button gets people killed — literally, here.
Reported patterns
Community posts describe a radial/wheel menu rather than single-slot emotes — hold the emote input, pick from the wheel. Unverified If your build differs, the in-game controls screen wins over anything written here.
The tactical footnote
Emoting is a broadcast: animation locks, sound, and a stationary hero. On the civilian side, save it for post-escape safety or lobby areas. As Michael… the community has already discovered that a well-timed emote after a Shape Jump scare is excellent psychological warfare. We report; you decide.
