PC performance & requirements: the honest picture

The PC build's performance story is typical Unreal Engine 5 at launch: good hardware runs it well, storage speed matters more than people expect, and some jank is the game's, not yours. Here's what's established, what's reported, and where tweaking stops helping.

What's established

  • SSD recommended. Install on one. A UE5 title streaming a detailed neighborhood off a hard drive is asking for hitching — this is the single highest-value "setting" on the page.
  • Launch-week criticism included animation and collision jank across platforms — meaning some of what you're seeing isn't a settings problem at all.

What's reported to help

Standard UE5 levers, in community-reported order of impact: Reported

  1. Upscaling choice. The DLSS/FSR-class options are the main frame-rate lever; try quality-tier upscaling before dropping visual settings wholesale.

  2. Shadow and global illumination settings — the usual UE5 heavyweights in dark, light-driven scenes (which is this entire game).

  3. Cap your frame rate to something sustainable rather than chasing peaks; frame-time consistency matters in a game about reading motion in darkness.

  4. Update GPU drivers — launch-window titles get driver-side fixes; a September-or-later driver is worth confirming.

Exact system requirements

We haven't verified the official minimum/recommended spec lists, so we won't reprint circulating ones — the store page you'd buy from (Steam/Epic) is the authoritative source. Unverified

When to stop tweaking

If a specific hitch reproduces in the same scripted moments, or collisions/animations misbehave identically at all settings — that's the launch jank both press and players flagged. It patches; it doesn't tweak. Track fixes on the patch tracker.
