Does it earn a slot? Yes — it's a weapon and an exit tool in one. The fire axe (found outdoors, often near trees) does high melee damage and breaks the wooden boards over hatch exits (and doors) — one of the two heavy weapons the escape chains call for.
The two-stage life
All melee weapons have durability, but the fire axe breaks upward: on breaking, it becomes a hatchet that throws like a tomahawk — and head hits with the hatchet usually down Michael and interrupt grabs. The axe's death is arguably its best moment; don't mourn the durability bar, aim the remains.
Usage notes
- Board-breaking is loud, scheduled work — do it early or screened, per the prep role.
- As a fight weapon it sits in the best tier with the pickaxe and sledgehammer; pick the axe when your route includes boards.
- Thrown hatchets are still civilian weapons on the ground afterward — and Michael picks up and throws what you leave.
