Matchmaking stuck or slow: what helps and what's just waiting

Matchmaking friction was a launch-week headline, and patch 1.0.1 fixed the biggest piece (crossplay). What remains is a mix of genuine residual issues — still community-reported — and the structural reality of a 1v4 game: queues are only as fast as the killer supply.

What actually helps

  1. Full restart on a stuck queue. If a search runs several minutes past normal, cancel, fully close the game, relaunch. Stuck session states are the most-reported culprit, and restart is the most-reported cure. Reported

  2. Run the connection checklist — version, platform status, NAT. Half of "matchmaking is broken" is connection wearing a costume.

  3. Queue flexible. If you're civilian-only-in-a-party-of-four at peak civilian hours, you're competing for scarce Michaels. Willingness to play the Shape is the fastest queue in the game.

  4. Try off-peak expectations, not off-peak tricks. Region and time of day move queue times more than any setting. There's no evidence for the circulating "re-queue rhythm" superstitions. Unverified

What's on the developers

  • Residual stuck-lobby reports (matchmaking completes, lobby never starts) continue post-1.0.1 at lower volume. Acknowledged only within the general "investigating issues" statement of September 10. Reported
  • We track fix status on the patch tracker; this page's status flips when a patch addresses queue/lobby issues specifically.

The honest baseline

Some slowness isn't a bug. Asymmetric games live with role-supply imbalance, and a healthy queue at odd hours can still be minutes long. Judge "broken" by stuck (no resolution ever) rather than slow — the fixes above are for the former.
